A couple of hours in Savannah
Nearly 45 years after a Rhodes Furniture sale — and we still had plenty to laugh about.
Charles is in town for the match. Before the seats, we stole a couple of hours at Savannah Bee Company — across from Enmarket Arena — with an observation hive on the wall and nowhere we had to be.
We didn't meet because we both worked at Rhodes. Charles was my customer. He'd just gotten out of the Navy, was selling cars at Scott Clark Toyota in Charlotte, and needed furniture for his first apartment. He walked into Rhodes Furniture and I sold him a $2,995 three-room package. Somehow a furniture transaction turned into a friendship that's lasted nearly 45 years.
We laughed about that package today. Then AMRE. Running leads together. Being roommates. Same two guys. Older. Still grinning.
